Standing out and challenging the narrative as a feminist media platform.

A case study with Raise the bar

The Challenge

Women on Top was a media platform with a newsletter, podcast, events, and a news site. It focused on feminist discussions about business, money, work-life, and economics. Frankie Cotton, the founder, aimed to grow and evolve the platform. She wanted it to challenge the narrative and stand out from other feminist media.

The Approach

With the new name Raise The Bar I supported Frankie on her thinking around what this could look like in terms of content, commercials and culture. We worked on gaining partnerships for the podcasts. Winning Tide Bank and The British Library and for events with Claro Money and Raindrop.

Frankie took on the challenging task of producing some breakthrough content pieces about successful Instagram influencers who were deceptively promoting pyramid schemes. Exposing one influencer in particular was risky and polarising for Frankie but she felt it was vital for her community, the wider conversation and shaping what the purpose of Raise The Bar was all about.

I supported her fully through what was a momentous moment in her business. Taking such leaps can be scary and with my experience of working at media platforms. I shared my knowledge on what ground breaking pieces or work can do to really speak to why your business exists and what can be gained by making such strong statements with your work.

Carmel is a connector through and through. Her experience in media brought more than just commercial avenues into the early-stage business - her network and experience created a very welcome blend of sales and PR opportunities. Working with Carmel helped unlock new pathways for how we could grow, and I was very thankful for her insight, introductions and enthusiasm for the brand.

Monetising opportunities without losing the values of

Case Studies Worthy Consultancy and Vestpod

The Challenge

Vestpod, a flourishing community, aims to empower people, especially women, toward financial independence. Emilie Bellet’s ‘The Wallet’ podcast, newsletter, Facebook group, workshops, and events were successful. Now, the challenge is monetizing without compromising the business’s values. Emilie and I both share a passion for hosting a large-scale event focusing on women and personal finances.

The Approach

I collaborated with Emilie to explore the commercial opportunities for Vestpod. Emilie envisioned vibrant conversations, community unity, and insightful learnings. To bring this vision to fruition, she sought sponsorships and partnerships. Together, we refined her sales materials, pitches, and propositions.

I supported the sales conversations, secured the partners, managed the accounts and rolled up my sleeves to be involved in the event management and nitty gritty of the day! It was a true career highlight for me having such a passion for these conversations and to see so many amazing women in one room! I felt privileged to be part of this amazing work and what Emilie achieved.

After this event and having several partnership conversations Emilie felt she had a strong commercial understanding to continue into 2023 to grow and scale the event and the Vestpod platform.

Carmel helped me plan and secure the funding for the Vestpod Festival. Her expertise in sales and effective communication with potential partners were impressive. She did a great job by demonstrating a clear understanding of our needs and goals and provided valuable insights throughout the planning process. Carmel was a pleasure to work with and played a significant role in the success of our event!

Bringing in strategic partnerships without 'selling out'

Cathi Harrison Founder of The Verve Group

The Challenge

The Verve Group is a collection of 5 businesses who offer outsourced support and services for financial advisers. Plus they have a very exciting social enterprise, ‘We Are Change’. This enterprise takes sponsorship from the financial services businesses to fund training of advisers from backgrounds where they might not be able to afford it themselves. Founder Cathi Harrison is highly ambitious, continually expanding the business.

I came onboard at a particularly pivotal time when they were incorporating tech to take the group to “Verve 2.0” As part of this Cathi wanted to explore how Strategic Partnerships could be a part of that growth. Not only to help finance but to enhance the services and offering for their existing clients.

The Approach

Together with the team we delved into the possibilities of strategic partnerships, ensuring they remained true to the core principles and purpose of the business. It was essential to avoid any perception of “selling out.”

Following my initial exploration, where I engaged potential sponsors, assessed competitors, and evaluated Verve team capabilities, we formulated and began executing our strategy…

We secured lucrative initial partnerships, shaped future products, and identified new opportunities. This also enabled a sharper focus on strengthening the foundations of the ‘We Are Change’ social enterprise, envisioning its evolution as a formidable player in the financial services market with broader impact.

Anyone in financial service who Carmel doesn’t know is probably not worth(y) knowing! Carmel did an amazing job of understanding Verves value and introducing us to firms and individuals that would benefit from a partnership and articulating the proposition in a way that ensured both parties were able to identify options and angles they had previously not considered.
